which reeds do you use, and how long do you use them?
I sometimes have problems finding the right reeds.
Thanks!

Hi,
I always use Vandoren reeds, 3,5.
When I play more classical music I use the reeds from the blue package. Actually they are good for all round purposes.
And for jazz music from the green package, the Java reeds. They sound a little bit sharper.
If I have a good reed (and I usually don't like every reed in the box) I can use it for months!
Just be careful with it and clean and dry it well after use!

Hi,
well what I do is to try and carefully correct the reed using sandpaper.
This only works with reeds which are a little bit too heavy, or have a muffled sound.
What I do is, I hold my favorite reed up to the light, so I can see through it.
Then you see a pattern in the reed, the middle is darker (thicker) and the edge lighter (thinner).
If you compare that with the pattern of a reed that is too heavy, you usually see that the heavy reed is still quite dark at the tip as well.
Using sandpaper you can polish the reed, make it a little bit thinner. Until it's pattern looks more like the one of your favorite reed.
Then it will sound better also.
Hope this helps!
Filip
